Course overview: An intensive, practical workshop for technical and engineering staff who maintain and repair Optoform 80 lathes.
Course outline:
1) Basics
- Optoform 80 routine maintenance and safety
- Review of the Optoform 80 control software
- Tool setting specifications and tolerances
- Cutting simple concave and convex parts, measurement and assessment of parts
- Verification of calibration and methods of adjustment
- Error messages and trouble-shooting
2) Major systems components of the Optoform 80
3) Slide architecture. Testing X and Z axis clearance; X and Z axis lift; X and Z axis float; X and Z axis stiffness, alignment of X and Z and axis squareness
4) Linear motors (diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up of motors, mechanical, electronic and software procedures)
5) Pressure sensors for slide axes (identification, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)
6) Phasing and homing hardware and sensors: (identification, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)
7) Servo amplifiers for linear motors: (description, removal, replacement, calibration and tuning procedures: mechanical, electronic and software)
8) Linear glass scales (maintenance, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)
9) BD 15 board replacement
10) Spindle architecture and spindle drive unit description
11) Spindle diagnostics and troubleshooting, mechanical alignment
12) Spindle removal, replacement and set-up, mechanical, electronic and software procedures
13) Replacement of Bellville washers and drawbar
14) Auto-tuning of the spindle drive to the spindle
15) Power supplies: identification of power supply units, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical and electronic.

17) PMAC: basics and batteries. PMAC setup after replacement. PMAC software; Maintenance screen, error messages, causes and resetting; PMAC gathering

Delegate profile: Suitable for technical and engineering staff. A reasonable understanding of the mechanical and electronic basics of ultra-precise machinery is assumed, together with adequate computer literacy.
