    An intensive, practical workshop for technical and engineering staff who maintain and repair Optoform 40 lathes.

    Basics
    • Optoform 40 routine maintenance and safety
    • Review of the Optoform 40 Machine Control Software (MCS)
    • Tool calibration, setting specifications, and tolerances
    • Cutting simple concave and convex parts; measurement and assessment of parts
    • Verification of calibration and methods of adjustment
    • Error messages and troubleshooting
    • Minifile generation using Sterling software: Optocad, Soft Power Suites, Optoform Path Viewer, etc.
    Overview of major Optoform 40 systems components
    • Axis Slides - Testing X and Z axis mechanical clearance; X and Z axis lift; X and Z axis floatation; X and Z axis stiffness
    • Linear Motors - Troubleshooting replacement and set-up of motors, mechanical, electronic and software procedures
    • Pressure Sensors for Axis Slides - Identification, diagnosing failures, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures
    • Phasing and Homing Hardware - Identification, diagnosing failures, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures
    • Linear glass scales, Laser read head, and BD95 Modules - Troubleshooting replacement and set-up of system, mechanical, electronic and software procedures
    • Spindle Architecture, Software, and Diagnostics - Auto-tuning of the spindle drive to the spindle, removal, replacement and set-up, mechanical, electronic and software procedures
    • Collet Receiver Overview - Replacement of collet, Bellville washers, drawbar, and balancing the spindle
    • Power Supplies - Identification, diagnosing failures, replacement and set-up
    • Computer Components - Identification of the various computer boards, diagnosing failures, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures
    • PMAC Basics - PMAC software, replacement and setup, error messages, causes and resetting, PMAC data gathering
    • Maintenance schedules and Inventory - Discuss typical maintenance, and replacement parts to keep in stock.

    Suitable for technical and engineering staff. A reasonable understanding of the mechanical and electronic basics of ultra-precise machinery is assumed, together with adequate computer literacy.

    Please note that if you choose this course at your own plant, one of your Optoform 40 machines will be out of production during the training period, as the training group will be using it.

    Course overview: A practical workshop for operations staff who set up and use Optoform 40 lathes.

    1. Introduction to Optoform 40

    2. Routine maintenance and safety

    3. Review of the Optoform 40 control software

    4. Tool setting

    5. Specifications and tolerances

    6. Diamond tools: tool handling and optimum tool use

    7. Inspection of tools and assessment of tool wear

    8. Maintaining a diamond tool relapping schedule

    9. Cutting simple concave and convex parts

    10. Methods of measurement of ultra-precise optical surfaces (options and techniques)

    11. Measurement and assessment of parts cut on the Optoform 40

    12. Verification of calibration

    13. Methods of adjustment

    14. Error messages and trouble-shooting

    Delegate profile: Suitable for operational staff who will setting up Optoform 40s on a regular basis.
