(For design of SOFT and RGP Contact Lenses for OPTOFORM and CITYCROWN machines.)
SUMMARY
TURBOLENS is a software program which facilitates the design (and graphical display) of spherical, multi-curve and bifocal Contact Lens designs for both SOFT and RGP (hard) materials.
Versions for SOFT and RGP lens designs can be purchased separately or as a combined suite.
There is also a version which outputs data for CITYCROWN machines.
CURRENT VERSION
The current version of TURBOLENS is 4.01.
DESIGN CAPABILITIES
All versions of TURBOLENS offer (amongst other capabilities) a spherical lens design program which can create up to 10 curves on either back or front surfaces.
All versions require the user to enter:
- Base curve values
- Lens power values
- Lens diameter
- Material
- Design file name
Lens thickness is controlled by minimum thickness values in the material file, which controls the center junction and the edge of the lens.
OPTOFORM versions of TURBOLENS allow aspheric back surfaces and peripheral curves.
Lens designs can be viewed graphically on the computer screen, and the program offers design print-outs for pairs of lenses, or for right or left lenses.
The standard version of TURBOLENS also offers
- A bifocal mode for creating concentric bifocals and concentric multi-zone bifocals
- The facility to convert spectacle prescriptions to contact lens prescriptions
- Thickness overrides in design files for when a design goes outside the parameters of thickness for a particular material
- Compatibility with the later Windows platforms, i.e. 2000 and XP
- Higher screen resolution
- The facility to store 80 different design files
TURBOLENS computer requirements are still simple:
- 1 Mg Ram
- 1 Mg disk space
- Printer port for the security device
- DOS 5.0 or later

Turbo Lens – Bifocal Option Description.
The bifocal option for Turbo Lens®, offers the additional flexibility of a simply defined alternating multi zoned concentric bifocal style of lens design.
The user may define a lens design with between three to ten front curves with two different powers. The powers will be automatically calculated to alternate from one zone to the next, leaving the outer most zone for the lenticular cut.
For example, the following shows the steps required, to make a lens using a 3 curve back surface, five curve front surface design.
First select bifocal, and enter the required parameters.

The first power entered would typically be the distance power, and would control the radius of the first and third concentric ring from center.
The second power entered would typically be the add power, is relative to the distance power (meaning that this example lens would read –5.00 / -3.00 on a lens meter), and would control the radius of the second and forth concentric ring from center.
The fifth radius in this example is the lenticular.
Next “C” is pressed to calculate, and the following screen will be displayed.
From this point, the design may be saved as an Optoform® Job File, or the center, junction, and/or edge thickness may be modified as required.
The above shows the visual display of this design in Turbo Lens®.
