ADVANCED MAINTENANCE TRAINING COURSE

Course overview: An intensive, practical workshop for technical and engineering staff who maintain Optoform 50 lathes.

Course outline:

1) Basics

  • Optoform 50 routine maintenance and safety
  • Review of the Optoform 50 control software
  • Tool setting specifications and tolerances
• Cutting simple concave and convex parts, measurement and assessment of parts
  • Verification of calibration and methods of adjustment
  • Error messages and trouble-shooting

2) Major systems components of the Optoform 50

3) Slide architecture. Testing X and Z axis clearance; X and Z axis lift; X and Z axis float; X and Z axis stiffness, alignment of X and Z and axis squareness

4) Pressure sensors for slide axes (identification, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)

5) Servo motors (diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up of motors, mechanical, electronic and software procedures)

6) Homing hardware and sensors: (identification, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)

7) Leadscrews: (assessing wear, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and alignments (X and Z axes), and calibration)

8) Servo amplifiers: (description, removal, replacement, calibration and tuning procedures: mechanical, electronic and software)

9) Linear glass scales (maintenance, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)

10) BD 15 board replacement

11) Spindle architecture and spindle drive unit description

12) Spindle diagnostics and troubleshooting, mechanical alignment

13) Spindle removal, replacement and set-up, mechanical, electronic and software procedures

14) Tuning of the spindle drive to the spindle

15) Power supplies: identification of power supply units, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical and electronic.

16) Computer boards: identifications of the various computer boards, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures

17) PMAC: basics and batteries. PMAC setup after replacement. PMAC software; Maintenance screen, error messages, causes and resetting; PMAC gathering

18) Chiller (maintenance, diagnosing failures, removal, replacement and set-up; mechanical, electronic and software procedures)

19) Maintenance schedules (leadscrew lubrication, air filter replacement, chiller maintenance etc)

20) Spare part inventory

21) Trouble shooting exercises and practice

Delegate profile: Suitable for technical and engineering staff. A reasonable understanding of the mechanical and electronic basics of ultra-precise machinery is assumed, together with adequate computer literacy.

TOOL CHANGE AND CALIBRATION TRAINING COURSE

Course overview: 
A practical workshop for operations staff who set up and use Optoform 50 lathes.

Course outline:

1. Introduction to Optoform 50

2. Routine maintenance and safety

3. Review of the Optoform 50 control software

4. Tool setting

5. Specifications and tolerances

6. Diamond tools: tool handling and optimum tool use

7. Inspection of tools and assessment of tool wear

8. Maintaining a diamond tool relapping schedule

9. Cutting simple concave and convex parts

10. Methods of measurement of ultra-precise optical surfaces (options and techniques)

11. Measurement and assessment of parts cut on the Optoform 50

12. Verification of calibration

13. Methods of adjustment

14. Error messages and trouble-shooting
